CEREC® Same Day Crowns and Restorations
CEREC® technology provides the opportunity for porcelain crowns, inlays, and onlays to be crafted in the office during an appointment. Here at Chester Dental Arts our use of CEREC® technology creates a faster and simplified process for many of our procedures. Typically, impressions and molds need to be sent to a laboratory to be crafted meaning that the patient must receive a temporary crown and come back later to finish the procedure. With CEREC® technology, our procedures can be changed to a one time visit, instead of needing our patients to come back for the permanent crown, inlay, or onlay. In just one appointment, you can leave with your brand new smile.
What is CEREC®?
The CEREC® system involves two pieces of equipment to create and craft the elements in the office. It requires a 3D computer software to create 3D images that are used to craft the crowns, inlays, and onlays. Secondly, it requires a milling unit in which the images are fabricated into the real crowns, inlays, and onlays. CEREC® crowns, inlays, and onlays are just as durable and visually appealing as those made in the laboratory.

SAME DAY CEREC® CROWNS VS. TRADITIONAL LAB CROWNS
As mentioned above, traditional lab crowns take a week to be crafted and sent back to our office. With the use of CEREC®, our patients can receive their full treatment in just one comfortable visit. How much do CEREC® Crowns cost?
The cost of CEREC® crowns will depend on each patient’s treatment plan. CEREC® crowns can be more affordable than laboratory crowns because they do not require the extra lab fees. There are different factors that will determine the cost of your treatment, such as how many crowns are needed, where they are placed and the experience of the dentist. Prices will vary, but on average CEREC® crown can vary from $500-$800 after insurance. After your consultation, our office will provide you with a quote of the expected costs before any treatment begins.
CEREC® Inlays and Onlays
WHAT ARE DENTAL INLAYS AND ONLAYS?
Dental inlays and onlays are similar to dental crowns, but do not cover the entire tooth. An inlay is a porcelain covering that protects the interior of the top of the tooth. An onlay is a porcelain covering that covers both the inside of the tooth surface and also the tips, also known as cusps. Inlays and onlays are used when the damage to a tooth does not require an entire dental crown, but still needs to be covered.
DENTAL INLAYS AND ONLAYS VS. FILLINGS
Fillings are typically made from gold, amalgam, or compositie to fill the decomposed parts of a tooth. Inlays and onlays use porcelain to cover larger and more in depth areas of the decayed part of the tooth. The largest difference is the material used and the intensity of the damage to the tooth.
How much do CEREC® Dental Inlays and Onlays cost?
As with most dental procedures, the cost of Cerec® Dental inlays and onlays will vary and depend on different factors. Onlays will typically cost more than inlays, but both are likely to be cheaper than laboratories because there are no added laboratory fees. After your consultation, we will provide you with an estimated quote of how much the treatment will cost before we start any of the treatment.
What Is the CEREC® Process Like?
The CEREC® procedure will begin with the patient being put under anesthesia,s o our dentists can go in and remove the decayed part of the tooth to take the impressions and prepare the teeth for the treatment. Once the impressions are taken they are entered into the CEREC® system and the milling unit begins to fabricate the crown, inlay, or onlay. The fabrication process only takes an hour, and the patient can relax during that time. Once it is done, our dentists will place and fit the crown, inlay, or onlay into the correct and comfortable position. After just one visit, you can leave with a brand new and beautiful smile.
How Long Do CEREC® Restorations Last?
CEREC® technology dental crowns, inlays, and onlays can last for years and even decades. The porcelain restorations themselves can last anywhere between 20 to 30 years. With good oral hygiene habits and regularly taking care of your teeth, your CEREC® technology treatments can last for many years.
