Dentistry Through the Ages
Chester Dental Arts proudly serves patients of all ages! But dentistry is not quite the same for each patient based on their age…Read on for more details!
Infants, Children, and Teens
Infants should begin visiting the dentist as early as age 1, or when their first tooth begins to erupt. Children have very different dental requirements than adults; they need strong support at home coupled with routine professional care to assure that their teeth are developing properly, resulting in a strong, long-lasting smile. As your child’s oral health develops, we will have a good idea if they may need braces in the future, prevent oral diseases from developing, and much more.
Patients in their 20s may begin noticing some changes about their smile. Maybe it’s misalignment or discoloration, or more cavities than normal. Regular check ups throughout your young adult years allow us to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy, and begin addressing any problems that may be beginning to develop. This may also be a great time to consider Invisalign for orthodontic needs, or veneers for cosmetic issues.
In Your 20s
In Your 30s
In your 30s, you should begin to consider past fillings and dental work you’ve had done. Do those treatments still hold up? Are they in danger of failing? Our team can take a close look, and begin to replace your old fillings with new, sturdier ones that aren’t at risk of failing. This also remains an important time to consider periodontal disease, as these issues become more impactful and prevalent as we continue to age.
In Your 40s and 50s
Patients in their 40s and 50s may begin to see weakened enamel and more staining. This is often a result of the natural aging process, coupled with the effects of drinking coffee, tea, and wine for many years; or the use of tobacco products. Teeth whitening treatments can be a great way to help your smile look a little younger at this time. Oral cancer screenings also become more important, which will remain a vital and routine part of your exams going forward.
In Your 60s and Beyond
As you continue to age, your smile can still look radiant with proper checkups, cleanings, and any necessary dental care. For those who have lost teeth, you may consider dental implant restorations as a permanent alternative to dentures. Periodontal disease also remains an important issue to look out for, which can be treated with a variety of options based on the severity of the issue.
